It has been several weeks since the season ended but work behind the scenes at Ramsbottom United is in full flow.
Manager Mark Fell has confirmed several players from the 2016/17 squad are already committed to the new season and they will be joined by a number of fresh faces.
Dean Stott will take over the club captaincy from the retired Gareth Seddon after he committed his future to the Rams whilst Luke Thompson, Martin Fearon, Jamie Rother, Grant Spencer, Brad Roscoe, Regan Jarrett and Alex Meaney have all agreed new deals at the Riverside.
Talks are ongoing with several others from last seasons’ squad although it has been confirmed that Ryan Salmon, Oliver Crankshaw and Damien Green will not be returning for the new campaign.
The manager added, “There’s no rest for managers this time of year, and certainly more than previous season I’ve known, managers are trying to get their business done very early. It’s a risky business announcing players as nobody actually signs until July but I am confident we’ve already secured several of our targets.
“I’m delighted to announce Dean Stott as club captain, it’s a natural step up from vice-captain last season, he leads by example and is hugely respected by everyone at the club. I’d also like to thank those players who are moving on from the club, the nature of non-league football is that there is a natural turnover of players, but all those lads not staying leave with our best wishes.”
The new look Rams will return to pre-season training at the end of June before the season starts on August 12.
Information on the first of the new faces in the door at the HWRS is expected shorty and the Rams also anticipate the release of their pre-season friendly dates next week. These will include Football League opposition visiting the Riverside, a local derby and a Welsh away day.
