Ramsbottom United players have returned for pre-season training under the watchful eye of manager Jon Robinson and assistant Phil Edghill. Joing the managerial pair are new coach Wayne Goodison and goal-keeping coach Mark Molyneux.
Having watched a number of potential new recruits, the Rams have signed up a number of players for the start of their second campaign at non-leagues third level – Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division.
Well known to the Rammy fans are last season’s “Player of the Year” and goalkeeper Grant Shenton, and season 13/14 Golden Boot award winning striker Lee Gaskell.
From last season’s hastily assembled mid-season squad, midfielder Matty Burke has signed, along with full-back Kyle Harrop, winger Luke Heron, midfielder David Kuba-Kuba and defender Callum Jones. Young prospects Jake Cliffe and Tom Hartley have also re-signed.
Returning to the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium after a brief spell away are combative midfielder Grant Spencer and full-back Lee Pugh, from Salford City and Curzon Ashton respectively, whilst left-sided Andrew Fitzgerald has made the move permanent after a brief spell on loan at the club in 2014 from Hyde.
Newcombers to the squad include Grant Shenton’s goal-keeping brother Ashley, Adrian Bellamy who has been the mainstay in the defence at Bacup Borough, Melford Knight from New Mills, along with his Derbyshire team-mate Rhys Nevins.
Youngsters Keiran Nolan and Zack Hargreaves both come highly rated having been released by Bolton Wanderers and Bury respectively.
Davison Banda (Bacup Borough), Oldham-based Ryan Fagan are also registered alongside Ghana-born Prince Osuwu who has been playing in Italy.
Robinson hopes to seal deals for a couple more players befor the season begins.
