Ramsbottom United has been pulled out of the hat first on three occasions at the FA headquarters as the draws for the FA Cup and FA Trophy were released.
Amazingly in both competitions, the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium will be hosting games against the same opposition – Sheffield FC. Odds against that happening must be pretty steep!
First up is the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup which takes place on Saturday 20th August.
In the Preliminary Round of the FA Trophy, the world’s oldest club, formed in 1857, returns to Ramsbottom on Saturday 8th October, and should the Rams be successful against their Evo-Stik Division One South opponents, another home tie awaits against the winners of the game between Prescot Cables and Ossett Albion. This First Qualifying Round tie would take place on Saturday 29th October.
These two games against Sheffield will be the first time the two clubs have ever met in a competitive fixture, although the Rams did visit their Dronfield ground for a pre-season friendly in 2015.
