With the transfer window officially open, Ramsbottom United are now in a position to announce that they have made seven new signings for the 2015/16, including the return of another old favourite!
Manager Jon Robinson has secured the signings of seven new players ahead of the return of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division campaign, which kicks off in just over a months time.
21-year-old defender Andrew Fitzgerald, who played for the club briefly a couple of seasons ago having also played for Curzon Ashton and Hyde, has agreed terms as has Kieran Nolan, an 18-year-old defender who was on Bolton Wanderers’ books.
Coming into the midfield is Ryan Fagan, was playing locally for Springhead while experienced 31-year-old Melford Knight has also signed up having been at New Mills last season and Mossley and Hyde previously. The highly-rated 16-year-old central midfielder Zack Hargreaves has joined the Rams following his release from youth terms at Bury.
Another player bolstering the defensive ranks is Davison Banda, a 22-year-old full-back who spent some of the time playing for local rivals Bacup and Rossendale Borough.
The seventh player who has signed on for Robinson’s outfit is a very familiar face – and familiar hair!
Having left the club in January this year head for Salford City, Grant Spencer was released by the promoted club at the end of the season and has made an instant return to the HWRS – and he is very welcome to be donning the blue shirt once again.
Of the squad from last season, it has been confirmed that defender Callum Jones, right-back Kyle Harrop, left-back Luke Heron, midfielder David Kuba-Kuba and striker with over 100 goals Lee Gaskell has also extended their agreements with the Rams for the new season.
And captain and goalkeeper Grant Shenton has also signed a new one-year contract with the club and will retain the skippers arm-band for the new campaign.
Sadly, there is news of departures with Mark Ayres having been forced into retirement through injury. Alex Frost has also left the club and headed to Curzon Ashton while it has been reported that Lee Neville has also moved on, signing newly relegated into the Northern Premier Division Hyde United.
We wish those players well.
