Ramsbottom United were rewarded for their excellent run of six wins and one draw from seven games during October by being named “Evo-Stik League Division One North TEAM OF THE MONTH” for October.

The presentation of a 4½ litre bottle of whiskey and a certificate was made to joint-managers Bernard Morley and Anthony Johnson before the game against New Mills at the weekend, by Evo-Stik League Secretary Angie Firth (see the photo).

Johnson commented, “The whole of the playing and management staff are very proud to have won the award. Even more so because of our start to the season. For the lads to turn things around so quickly and so impressively makes it even more enjoyable!”

Evo-Stik League side Ramsbottom United are delighted to announce that they have received the accolade of “First Division North Club of the Month” for October. The award will comprise of a 4.5 litre bottle of Bells Whiskey plus a suitably inscribed certificate. Having started the season with a hangover, having been pipped for a place in the play-offs by a last minute goal at the end of last season, the Rams lost their first four games. However, that temporary and unaccustomed loss of form is by now a distant memory, as the club sailed through October with a record of six wins and a draw, scoring 26 goals and conceding just seven. They not only made progress up the league, but also advanced in non-league’s major knock-out competition, the F.A. Trophy. Having knocked out fellow Division One high-flyers, Warrington Town on their own ground, the Rams were drawn at home in the next round to Evo-Stik Premier Division side Worksop Town. The one division difference hardly seemed evident as they dispatched their opponents 7-2, having raced into a three goal lead inside seven amazing minutes. In the league, having gained a draw at near-neighbours Radcliffe Borough, the Rams welcomed unbeaten Lancaster City to the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium, before sending them packing on the end of a 6-0 walloping. A 3-2 win at Wakefield preceded a 4-0 victory away at Harrogate R.A., and just for good measure, they also saw off Atherton LR in the County Cup competition. The Rams entered November in fine form, making even further progress in the F.A. Trophy by defeating high-riding Premier League side Blyth Spartans in Northumberland. So this award is very welcome on the back of such a fine run, and will be presented before the home league game with New Mills on Saturday 9th November. It will be presented by a representative of Bostik Ltd, and Angie Firth, secretary of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League. Supporters are asked to turn up early to watch the presentation and applaud the side for it’s efforts over the last few weeks.
