With injuries to central defenders Andy Dawson and Ian Flannery causing problems for Ramsbottom United, joint managers Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley’s relationship with NWCFL side Barnoldswick Town paid dividends for the home match against title favourites Darlington.

The Rams have loaned a number of players to “Barlick” in order to gain game time, but with Ian Flannery struggling to regain fitness, and defensive partner Andy Dawson still feeling the after-effects of a knock he took against Stocksbridge Park Steels a week earlier, the Rams bosses reversed the procedure by bringing in, on loan, centre-half Billy Priestley.

Priestly had an impressive debut as he marshalled the defence to such an extent that Darlington failed to score and went down 3-0 to an impressive Ramsbottom United performance.
