Captain Tom Kennedy’s thoughts ahead of the new campaign.
Club captain Tom Kennedy recently committed his future to the club signing on for another season and the full-back can’t wait to get started again on Saturday when the Rams take on City of Liverpool FC.
Kennedy admitted it’s been strange with Chris Willcock leaving during pre-season, but is also delighted with the appointment of Lee Donafee.
Ahead of the first game of the season, the Rams skipper said: “Happy to be back in and around the lads and having restrictions lifted in what has been a very strange and testing time over the past 18-months.
“It’s been a good pre-season and was strange with Chris leaving who I had a great relationship with but delighted to have Diego (Lee Donafee) in charge going forward and excited about the start of the season on Saturday.”
The skipper has also been pleased that a good bulk of the squad have decided to continue at Rammy this season and believes it will set the team in good stead for a positive campaign.
Regarding the squad, the defender stated: “Obviously in non-league there’ always a turnaround of players.
“But keeping Bakes, Rother, Domaine, Eddie etc., and adding a few players here and there will give us a strong, experienced core which we can build on.”
The return of fans at competitive games is also something in which the captain is eager to see again, the previous being a 2-1 home win against Prescot Cables way back at the end of October last year.
He is also hoping the coming season will go smoothly and be able to be completed.
“Looking forward to the start of the season Saturday and hopefully getting a full season of football.
“It’s been way too long since we had fans and I can’t wait to have them back on the terraces and enjoying a beer or two after the upcoming games to celebrate!”
