Ramsbottom United are delighted to confirm the signing of midfielder Joel Earps.
The 26-year-old has recently moved to the local area from Nottingham.
He’s most recently played at Wisbech and Yaxley, who this season have both moved into the newly formed NPL midlands division.
Football runs through the blood of the Earps family, his sister Mary currently plays for Manchester United Women and has 36 caps in an England shirt from youth to senior level.
Speaking to ramsbottomunited.co.uk after signing Joel said: “The main attraction for me was the manager combined with the togetherness and general feeling around the club.
The support from the very first session was amazing, I felt very welcome and at home. The manager has been very supportive and really helped my confidence coming back having barely played given covid. Secondly, the style of play the manager is looking to instil is a big bonus.”
He continued: “It’s always great to be back, I have really missed the feeling. I think I will struggle to find something that beats that game day buzz and now that fans are starting to be allowed back in, it will give the lads that extra boost to start strong!
I’ve found it quite tough but think I am starting to find my feet a bit now. As the weeks have gone on I have started to gel more with the boys and understand what the manager wants out of us.
It’s going to be a test and a good gauge of where we are at as a team. If we can build on our performance against Radcliffe last week, then I think we are going to cause them some problems.”
Earps’ concluded on his aims for the season “For me personally, it’s silverware and promotion. Would love to win something come the end of the season!”
Manager Lee Donafee added: “Joel has come in mid-pre-season. He has improved in the latter stages which has resulted in us signing him. I believe there will be more to come from Joel and he is a welcome addition to the club”
