League One side Rochdale have signed Donal McDermott from Ramsbottom United.

The midfielder joined the Rams in early February following the departure of a number of players in January and played ten games for the Evo-Stik Premier Division club, scoring three goals in their successful escape from relegation.

The Dublin-born 25-year-old began his career at Manchester City before spells with Scunthorpe United, MK Dons, Chesterfield, Huddersfield Town and Bournemouth and had previously played this season for Irish club Dundalk, and, briefly, Salford City.

McDermott impressed the Dale boss Keith Hill during a trial period and has signed a one-year contract with a twelve month option.

Everyone at Ramsbottom United wishes Donal well for the future.
