Ramsbottom United can confirm that Kyle Brownhill has left the club to join Hyde United.
The left back arrived at the Riverside in the summer and went on to be a consistent performer for the Rams, making 25 appearance and scoring three goals. Following an approach from Hyde after the Rams knocked the Tigers out of the Integro League Cup, Brownhill has made the decision to switch to Ewen Fields.
Ramsbottom United manager Mark Fell commented, “We wish Kyle all the best for the future, he’s a lovely young man who’s supported by a great family and I’ve no doubt he will do well at Hyde. The fact is we cannot compete with clubs like Hyde financially and when a young lad who’s self employed gets offered significantly more than what we can it’s a life decision as well as a football one. I am disappointed that Hyde didn’t consult us on the announcement, nor did I have the courtesy of a call from their manager. Maybe it’s old fashioned of me, but I ensure I have the courtesy to call an opposition manager when I am in for one of their players, sadly only one manager has given Ramsbottom United that courtesy this season so fair play to Steve Cunningham at Colne.”
Fell also gave an indication that a replacement may be winging their way into the Riverside soon. “We signed Kyle very late in pre-season and originally Jerome Wright was signed as a left-back, but Jerome has been effective higher up the pitch so we’ve made some enquiries about a replacement which I think we’ve a good chance of securing. Until then, we’ve still good cover with players who are more than capable of playing in several different positions.”
