278 appearance plus one off the bench – courtesy of Adam Berrisford’s hopeless clapped out car on the last day of the 2010/11 season at Congleton Town – and Grant Shenton finally takes off his Ramsbottom United gloves as he announced he is to leave the club at the end of the season.

Having played more matches for the Rams than any other player, goalkeeper Shenton has been a virtual ever present since making his debut in the FA Cup Preliminary Round at Cheadle Town on 28 August 2010 (a 3-1 victory) and then making his league debut in the North West Counties clash at home to Padiham, resulting in a 2-1 defeat.

But, two promotions came along in 2012 and 2014 as Grant became part of the fabric of the Ramsbottom United XI, setting the record set by defender John Blackley (244) as the player who has worn the RUFC shirt the most.

So, here are a few statistics on Grant Shenton’s Rammy career.

Played – 278 (plus 1 sub appaerance)
Won – 140
Drawn – 35
Lost – 103 (of which 45 came since January 2015)
Goals conceded – 411
Goals seen scored by the Rams – 570
Clean sheets – 67
Promotions – 2
Yellow cards – 14
Red cards – 1

Grant was honoured with a framed picture by the Supporters Club, which was presented at the end of season Awards Ceremony following the 4-0 victory over Ilkeston on Saturday.

He also led the side out during that final fixture with his son Noah and was given a guard of honour as he left the pitch for the final time in a Rammy shirt.

The interview with Grant following the defeat to Marine is now available here …..
