The youngsters who make up the RAMSBOTTOM UNITED GIANTS under 9’s Junior Football Team swept past a host of teams from the north-west to clinch the prestigious Foxhall Football Tournament in Blackpool last Saturday.
The youngsters, many of whom have played together for “Rammy” since they were five, defied the hot weather to successfully clinch the trophy after winning their way through seven games on the Fylde coast.
This latest success follows on from three triumphs last year where the Giants clinched? ? the Haslingden under 10’s, JSL Rochdale tournament under 9’s, and the Manchester Cup under 9s competitions.
The team are becoming quite a force in the local area with many professional clubs beginning to take note of this talented bunch, whose friendship both on and off the pitch, is helping to create a team spirit that is proving successful in matches.
To complete an enjoyable month, the team will shortly be leaving for Barcelona to take on some of the best teams in Europe in a 3 day tournament and are excited at the challenge ahead. One of the teams will be the Barcelona academy team where it is sure to be a stiff test for the boys. They will also be visiting the famous Nou Camp stadium and seeing where the likes of Messi and Co ply their trade.
They may only be 9 years old, but already the future looks bright for these enthusiastic young footballers.
Congratulations to manager Matthew Gilbey and all of the players – Jack Mayo, Rafe Jackson, Noal Peet, Finley Chadwick, Jacob Crowther, Dominic Filidoro, Raphael Rich, Freddie Collier and Jared Gilbey.
