Ramsbottom United’s inaugural season at Evo-Stik Premier level begins on Saturday with a home visit of Kings Lynn Town (3.00pm kick-off) and the club have strengthened with the signing on five new players.
Having retained 15 of last season’s successful promotion squad, joint managers Bernard Morley and Anthony Johnson have put the finishing touches to this seasons’ line-up by bringing in five new players to replace the departed Owen Roberts, Darren Green and Danny Warrender.
Coming in are former Droylsden central midfielder Malachi Slaven (20 years ago), whilst in front of him will be attacking midfielder Osebi Abadaki, a 23-year-old who has previously played for Mossley and Halifax Town. He was at fellow Evo-Stik Premier side Nantwich Town last season.
21-year-old Sam Cook, who plays up front, began his career at Macclesfield Town, before moving to Loughborough University and he played last season for Shepshed Dynamo.
Porya Ahmadi is another talented youngster. Said Johnson, “He is a pacey skilful 21-year-old centre-forward who began his career at Sheffield United. He’s since been with Chorley and Salford City and he’ll prove a handful for opposing defences.”
Completing the list of newcomers in Tom Williams, a winger who came on for Bamber Bridge in that dramatic play-off final in May.
Johnson is happy with the 20-man squad the club has assembled. “We feel this is stronger than last season, and are looking forward to the challenge, beginning with the visit of Kings Lynn Town on Saturday.
