Before a small crowd, boosted by a good contingent from east Lancashire, a goal in each half was enough to earn the points for the Mintcakes.

The first goal on 30 minutes from Sam Bailey was a superb strike.  Out on the left hand side, he curled in from fully 25 yards over the out-stretched arms of the Rams giant keeper Chris Cheetham, and in just under the bar at the far post.

As the seconds ticked away before the break, a Ramsbottom raid on the home goal ended with Nia Bayunu being shoved out of the way by a home defender, leaving the referee with little choice than to point to the spot.

Gareth Seddon took the kick and sent it low past home keeper Will Kitchen’s left hand.

The winner came on 60 minutes, when Ollie Wood was allowed the opportunity to force his way between two Rams defenders, on the left hand side, and fire home low past Cheetham from just inside the box.

Late substitutions from the visitors failed to make any impression and the final whistle blew on a disappointing night for the team.
