The National League System Club Allocations for the 2018/19 season have been announced and the Rams have found themselves placed in Step 4 – Northern Premier League West with a handful of new names and new venues.
The league will be made of 20 clubs, starting on Saturday 18th August.
From the 2017/18 season, we say goodbye to South Shields, Scarborough Athletic, Hyde United and Bamber Bridge, who have all been promoted to the Northern Premier League Step 3 division and Goole, who were relegated.
But we also bid a farewell to the Yorkshire clubs Tadcaster Albion and Ossett Town and Ossett Albion, who have merged to become Ossett United.
Coming up from the North West Counties are Runcorn Linnets, who we will play for the first time since 2012, and Widnes, who were only formed in 2003 and joined the Counties in 2013, so we will see a first ever meeting between the sides.
The Rams will be heading down into the North Midlands for matches against clubs who have moved up from the NPL South Division. Kidsgrove Athletic finished 18th last season, Leek Town were 7th and Market Drayton Town from Shropshire who closed the season in 21st while there has been a late change with the inclusion of Chasetown from Staffordshire.
Also returning to the Riverside for the first time since 2010 will be Newcastle Town – the team that Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley had their first ever match as Ramsbottom United managers against – and we lost 0-5 as the Staffordshire men cruised to the NWCFL title by 24 points from New Mills, conceding just 21 goals in 42 matches and finishing the season on 114 points.
The full list of clubs in the new NPL West Division are:
